The boys found the track super easy to put together and they were racing it out in little to no time at all. The track features a red and blue car so they each had their own to race. Just note that you do need a bunch of batteries for this toy so make sure you have them on hand Christmas morning :)

Did you see the TLC show Extreme Couponing yet? I did, and I just had to weigh in on it and what I think.

When does couponing become an obsession? An addiction?

I am the first to say I love saving money at the store with coupons, it is a thrill when I can purchase 10 boxes of fruit snacks and only pay under $1. But I never let it go to the extreme. I never let it take over my life, and most importantly I don't let it take away time from my family.

TLC recently followed four people and their "Extreme Couponing" habits. I have to say that some of them were very EXTREME. Does someone really need 1,500 sticks of deodorant? Come on people. I am all about donating to your local food bank, or homeless shelter when you have a surplus. But these people are too far gone....

Dumpster Diving with your 4 year old, running out to the store and dropping dinner plans with your friends and family, knocking door to door to ask for coupons, all to save a buck! Spending 70 hours a week planning your trips. WOW!

You will find around 6 months of items in my basement, that is enough for me to sustain my family if the need arises. My goal is 1 year. No excess and no overflowing containers of toothbrushes for me. I spend maybe 30 minutes to an hour every other week clipping or ordering coupons for my shopping trips. And I still save BIG!

When I see people filling their homes to the brim with toilet paper, noodles, cans of soup, and more it makes me sick. I call that HOARDING. There is no way you will ever use all of it, and it has become your obsession.

Ever had a check out clerk give you a dirty look, or the person in line behind you? Shoppers like this give all us coupon savers a bad name. They see people like this (Extreme Couponers) taking it to an annoying and unhealthy level.

Go ahead, shop with coupons and score awesome deals, I am all about that. But check yourself. When you are checking out with 300 bars of soap, think to yourself. "Do I need all this?" Come one people. If this is you, you may need to get HELP!!!

Here's one I think we will make this year:

The Elves Snickerdoodles

Being one of Santa's elves requires a lot of qualities we admire: industriousness, cooperation, attention to detail, and perhaps most of all, a sense of humor. Says one elf we spoke to: "We work hard all year long. The hours are long, so morale is important. The baker elves (the ones assigned to kitchen duty) know that one sure way to keep their crew happy throughout the holiday season is by serving plenty of these sparkly sugar-topped Snickerdoodles. The name alone just gives us the giggles."

Ingredients

2-1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
2 tablespoons soft butter

1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1/3 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
Colored sugar or edible glitter

Instructions

Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg into a large mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, using an electric mixer, cream the shortening and butter. Gradually mix in the sugar. Beat in the egg until blended, then the sour cream, vanilla extract, and lemon zest.
With a wooden spoon, stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture half at a time, until evenly mixed. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for 30 to 60 minutes.
Shortly before baking heat the oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease one or two large cookie sheets, or line them with parchment paper. Put the decorative sugar into small bowls.
With lightly floured hands, shape the dough into 1-1/2-inch-thick balls. Roll the balls in the colored sugar and place them on the prepared baking sheets spaced about 3 inches apart. Bake the cookies on the center oven rack for 15 to 18 minutes, until they're a light golden brown. Cool the cookies on the sheet for 2 to 3 minutes. Then use a spatula to transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling. Makes about 24 cookies.

LION HOUSE WASSAIL RECIPE

Ingredients

2 1/4 cups white sugar
4 cups water
2 cinnamon sticks
1 slice fresh ginger root
4 cups orange juice
2 cups lemon juice
8 cups apple juice
8 whole allspice berries
1 tablespoon whole cloves

Directions

In a large saucepan, combine sugar and water. Boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and add cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, cloves, and ginger. Cover and let stand in warm place for 1 hour.
Strain liquid into a large pot. Just before serving, add juices and cider and quickly bring to boil. Remove from heat and serve.

Here is one of my favorites....ooey gooey FUDGE! Perfect for your family and friends. Wrap some up and take it to your neighbors too!

Ready In:

Ingredients

1 (7 ounce) jar marshmallow creme
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1/4 cup butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk chocolate chips
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Line an 8x8 inch pan with aluminum foil. Set aside.
In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine marshmallow cream, sugar, evaporated milk, butter and salt. Bring to a full boil, and cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat and pour in semisweet chocolate chips and milk chocolate chips. Stir until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Stir in nuts and vanilla. Pour into prepared pan. Chill in refrigerator for 2 hours, or until firm.

YUMMY HALLOWEEN CARAMEL APPLES RECIPE!

Caramel candy apples are one of those things that are as much fun to make as they are to eat. I helped out at a young friend's birthday party this week, making up a batch of these caramel apples for a flock of kids. (Original recipe from Epicurious.) Of note, none of the kids went for the pecan topping (what's up with kids not liking nuts?), they preferred the M&Ms, raisins, and candy sprinkles. Each got to dip his or her own apple and decorate it.

Caramel Apples Recipe

Ingredients

1 1-pound box dark brown sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
2/3 cup dark corn syrup
1/3 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon robust-flavored (dark) molasses
1/4 teaspoon salt
12 sturdy lollipop sticks or chopsticks
12 medium apples

Assorted decorations (such as chopped nuts, chopped raisins, mini M&M's and candy sprinkles)

Equipment needed - one accurate candy thermometer.

Method

1 Combine sugar, butter, condensed milk, corn syrup, maple syrup, vanilla, molasses and salt in a thick-bottomed 2 1/2 or 3 quart saucepan. Stir with a wooden spoon on medium-low heat until all the sugar dissolves. There should be no grittiness (sugar crystals) when you test by rubbing a little of the caramel between your fingers. Brush down the sides of the pan with a wet pastry brush to dissolve any sugar crystals that might form on the pan sides.

2 Attach a clip-on candy thermometer to the pan and cook caramel at a rolling boil until the thermometer reaches 236°F, stirring constantly and slowly with a wooden spatula. Continue to occasionally brush the sides down with a pastry brush. Carefully pour caramel into a metal bowl. Cool until the temperature lowers to 200°F, at which point you are ready to dip the apples.

3 While the caramel is cooking/cooling, prepare a large baking sheet, covering it either with buttered aluminum foil or silpat. Insert a chopstick or sturdy lollipop stick into each apple, about 2-inches, top down, into the apple core.

4 When the caramel has cooled enough for dipping, dip the apples in, one by one, by holding on to the stick, and vertically lowering the apple into the caramel, submerging all but the very top of the apple. Pull the apple up from the caramel and let the excess caramel drip off from the bottom back into the pan. Then place on the silpat or prepared foil. The caramel will pool a little at the bottom of each apple. Place into the refrigerator to chill for at least 15 minutes.

5 Once the caramel has chilled a bit, remove from the refrigerator and use your fingers to press the caramel that has dripped to the bottom of the apples, back on to the apples. Then take whatever coatings you want and press them into the apples for decoration. Return to the refrigerator to chill for at least one hour.

Shopping for a swim suit online is hard, to say the least!
Especially when you are not a stick figure model.

FUN YUMMY....SUMMER SLUSH RECIPES

With the hot summer sun out what better way to cool off than with a SLUSH drink!
Here are a few yummy ones you can make yourself and are sure to be a crowd pleaser:

FROZEN SUMMER SLUSH

2 cups white sugar
7 cups water
4 tea bags
2 cups boiling water
1 (12 fluid ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate
1 (12 fluid ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate
2 cups gin

Directions

Put 7 cups water in large saucepan, and heat on high until boiling. Add sugar and stir until dissolved; set aside to cool. Place teabags in 2 cups boiling water, and let steep until desired strength is acquired.
In a large bowl, mix together sugar water, tea, lemonade concentrate and orange juice concentrate. Stir in gin. Place in freezer container and freeze overnight.
To serve, Place several scoops into a tall glass, and fill with any clear carbonated beverage.

1 large can pineapple juice
2 cans frozen lemonade
1 can lemon juice
3 packages powdered raspberry punch
4 cups sugar
1 package frozen raspberry

Add water to make 2 gallons. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and freeze.

Summertime has finally arrived at our house! Since the rainy weather was keeping the kids indoors and they were really starting to drive me crazy, I am ecstatic. Now, they can run and play in the warm sunshine of the backyard.
Guess what we had the opportunity to review this week?

I will start by showing you a picture:

Hayneedle.com really surprised my kids when their new swing set arrived on the front porch earlier this week. At first they looked at the box and said "what's that mom?" I then proceeded to make them sound out the words and when they got to SWING SET they flipped out! Screams and squeals and joy was flying all around the house. Now there mission was to get dad out in the backyard and get it put together. Of course I had to help too! It was definitely a two person job. I know that my husband could have done it himself, but it would have taken twice as long. The instructions were pretty clear and that was mainly my job...reading them over and over to make sure we were doing everything correctly. In all it took us roughly 2 hours to put up.

Hayneedle.com also sent us the Swing Set Ground Anchor Kit along with the swing set so we could make sure it was very stable as the kids love to swing high! This only took us a few minutes to install as you simply screw them into the ground and place the swing set a top them. We chose an area of the yard where it could be permanent and we could still mow the grass around it.

While I am typing this I can see the kids out in the backyard swinging and playing away. It is very sturdy and well made so I know they are safe while playing on it. My husband was really impressed with the quality and that all that it has to offered came in one box. It did weigh over 90 lbs. but we were very surprised that the big swing set was all inside. I love the fact that it has six stations so everyone has something to do...but have to admit the totter is the favorite. Plus, I know it will last for years and years to come. They sure love their new swing set.

I simply LOVE shopping. I admit I am a bit of a shopaholic. I especially LOVE shopping online. Lately, I have been going to bed at night wishing I had a dream bedroom to drift off to sleep in...

I have been eyeing many of their headboards. Like this one. What do you think? My bedroom looks so plain and bare and I really think this will spruce it up and make it look more classy! Just love the pattern and color.
I have also been eyeing this dresser. It too would look fantastic in my bedroom.

Then if I added some curtains and a few knick knacks my bedroom would actually look like a bedroom! I can't wait....for my dream to end and become my reality!
